How to comment on a blog

It may seem like a simple task to you, but most of my students in COM106 Writing for the Communication Professions at Rider University have never commented on a blog before… So, today, they’re going to be commenting on my blog right here.

Please help us learn more about blogging… If you’ve got some helpful tips or stories to share about your experiences writing or commenting on blog posts, we’d be happy to hear from you, too! So, please share your comments.

Until next time, take care, and thanks for reading (and, hopefully, commenting)!

Hey everyone! I have had some experience in the past with reading and commenting on blogs but I actually have a question. Is it ever suitable to post a video response on a written blog or vice-versa?

Can anyone tell me a bit more on blog etiquette? Does Emily Post have a section on blogging, yet? 🙂

Hey… you’re way ahead of schedule, Amanda! Class doesn’t meet until 2:20… Seriously, that’s okay! See you later… and thanks for posting!

P.S. And in answer to your question about posting a video response, Amanda, I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be suitable.

I often post on mentalfloss.com. It’s a site for random knowledge junkies like myself. It’s a great place to learn and interact with other people who are just like me.

Although I’ve been unfamiliar with blogging up until this class, I have a feeling that I will be a professional on the subject by the conclusion of the semester.

  7. Teresa

I have commented on blogs before to anonymously defend a show I choreographed. I like blogging because I feel like its a way to interact with people as well as speak your mind without having to let everyone know who you are. Yay for no class on Fridays! =)

Hello, everyone! I’ve never posted on a blog before, so here goes nothing… I am fairly new to the blog world actually. I do not read many blogs and I don’t follow any. I’m hoping to find a few blogs that interest me and maybe keep me occupied for a while. It would be nice to check something other than Facebook for a change.

    Hello!
I have commented on blogs before but my comments are usually just the words “great post!” or “how interesting!”, I hope in the future I leave comments that contain much more content/opinions about the blog. I enjoy reading some blogs because I find that it is a great creative and emotional outlet for individuals, and I am in awe of the amount of talent out there in our world.

Social media blogging in this day and age is becoming a normal thing. I feel that it has become more and more common amongst people of all ages. Personally I don’t have a blog, but I do tweet, which is short blogs if you ask me! I think in a few years blogging will reach an all time high and will continue to grow as time goes by.

So here’s to my first blog comment! 🙂

I don’t think I’ve ever commented on a blog before. For some reason when it comes to expressing myself online, I’ll type something up and then be too afraid to submit it or send it out. I think the idea that once something is posted on the internet, it’s there forever is kind of stuck in my brain and makes me uncomfortable with putting my thoughts online. I’m hoping this class will help me realize that blogging and online expression is the future as well as get over this somewhat absurd fear. I don’t have a problem with other people blogging or reading other people’s ideas, but I need to become a bit less apprehensive when it comes to posting my words to the world, permanently.

Hey there, I have no comment on any blogging. So I’m pretty clueless to all this stuff. Ah well, hopefully I get the hang of it. Kinda have to. Neutral opinion on social media and blogging. For the immediate future, I’m probably gonna go back to my apartment, have some quesadillas, play lacrosse, skateboard, then take it from there, maybe iceksating, I duno. Gonna start working on my TV show this year and be a DJ on the Rider radio. I duno how long this blog is supposed to be so by this point in time it’s just me typing random stuff.

Hey, This is my first real blog. I had to blog on E Blogger for a writing class at Rider, but it was just to summarize articles we found on the web. I know how to blog cause I have friends that do it, but i am not a blogger, so this class should be interesting.

I guess this counts as my first real blog though and this class will have me blog a lot more.

This is my second time commenting on a blog. One of my favorite bands, nevershoutnever, has a website where they post blogs about current events coming up in their schedule. They recently performed on Jimmy Fallon Late Night, and I won tickets to see them perform. A blog advertising the show was posted on nevershoutnever.com and many teeny-bopper fans replied that the girls (including myself) in the background of the performance were just swaying and moving their heads. One particular responder claimed she would have lunged at the singer and screamed the lyrics. I politely, yet forcefully responded that there was a gate between us and him and no lunging would ever occur. Silly girl.

I like the that we are discussing blogs in class because I really have no experience when it comes to blogging and for someone that is thinking about going into Public Relations it is pretty much a must know. I’m taking a Public Relations class now and I like how this class and the PR class seem to mesh together. The classes are following close together when it comes to topics and stuff like that so I’m happy.

I’m really looking forward to this class and learning what I can about writing and the different media that can be used for it.

I have really enjoyed the first two weeks here at Rider University. I am looking forward to challenges and rewards in all of my classes.

I have commented on other blogs before, although I do not do it regularly. A friend of mine has his own blog called Bronx Bound on the YES Network website. He also has an outlet for things the sensors say cannot be posted at YES called Bronx Bound.

Additionally, I rarely comment on ESPN and Yahoo News.

  17. Christina

This Fall is the first time I am blogging, which is in some ways exciting. I am blogging in another class because it is required but I’m starting to enjoy it. It is not as bad as I thought…depending if we get a topic or not.

  18. Sean

Ok, thrid times a charm. It seems the past 2 times it said that I’ve been blogging too quickly when it’s been my first time ever blogging. Anyway, yeah don’t really have any feelings bout blogging. Just got hit by a random hell of a thunderstorm.

You bring up a great point about social media, Krystle: We get to “interact with other people who are just like” us… Thanks!

Sometimes you can be anonymous, but other times you need to reveal who you really are in order to have your comments published by the person who writes/runs the blog. (And, yes, yay…!!) Thanks, Teresa!

We’ll be learning how to write a lot of great content this semester, Yangzom. Thanks for your post!

  22. Kathy Magrino Post author

You can definitely call your tweets “short blogs” or microblogging, Meghan. Thanks for your first blog comment!

  23. Kathy Magrino Post author

It’s great to be cautious, Michelle, but I hope this class helps you to overcome your fears! Thanks for posting your comment.

  24. Kathy Magrino Post author

Mmmm… quesadillas sound good right now — it’s almost my dinner time! Thanks, Sean!

  25. Kathy Magrino Post author

I think your article summaries might qualify you as an experienced blogger already… Thanks for your comment, Jeremy!

  26. Kathy Magrino Post author

Sounds like it was fun to go to the Jimmy Fallon show! Hope you had a good time, Stacey!

  27. Kathy Magrino Post author

One of your other posts made it to the blog comments already, Sean… (and we’re getting that thunderstorm here now, too!)

  28. Kathy Magrino Post author

Who’s teaching your PR class this semester, Bobbilynn? I’ve taught that course in the past and it’s a lot of fun — enjoy!

  29. Joe

Well I’m glad I decided to go back on here and double-check, because apparently my first one never went through. I guess that makes this my second time commenting on a blog then. I’m sure I’ve read some here and there in the past, but I can’t really say that I have all too much experience with blogs. Then again I’m sure that once this whole project is said and done that won’t be the case anymore.

  30. Kathy Magrino Post author

Thanks for double-checking, Joe! And your experiences with blogs is only just beginning… 😉 Have a good night!
